VELMA ELAINE TINNEY
(1916-2008)

           

Velma Elaine Tinney, 92, of Canton, IL, formerly of Memphis, passed away Monday, March 3, 2008 in Graham Hospital in Canton, IL.

The daughter of Henry Clay and Ora Evelyn (Donaldson) Chance, she was born February 1, 1916 in Scotland County. She attended rural school in Scotland County.

In 1975, she was married to William Alfred Tinney in Kirksville, MO. He preceded her in death in 1988.

Velma worked for many years at Shellor Globe in Keokuk, IA. She was also a wallpaper hanger in the Memphis area.

She loved flowers, gardening and any outdoor activities. She also enjoyed her great great grandchildren.  In 1995 she moved to Canton, IL to be near her family.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; three sisters, Lena Mae Smith, Rosa Knight, and Celia Louise Chance; and three brothers, Earnest Chance, Ray Chance, and John Chance.

Survivors include her four grandchildren: Kay and husband Rod Deushane ,Rick and wife Jenny Hauk, Jeff and wife Cathy Hauk and Chad Hauk, all of Canton, IL.; ten great grandchildren,  Melissa (Michael) Warfield, Sharon Pettit, Andrea Hauk, Mallory (Patrick) Jenkins, Scott Hauk, Austin, and Bret Hauk, Crystal (Tony) Zoiti, and Kirk and Carmel Deushane; and eleven great great grandchildren, Tanner, Tiara, Seth, and Danika Warfield, Emily and Ricky Alan Hauk, Coty, Shawn and Logan Zoiti, and Taylor and Gavin Deushane; sister-in-law, Ruby Chance of Memphis; daughter-in-law, Virginia Hauk of Canton, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 6, 2008, at the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis with Reverend Ernest Deatrick officiating.  Visitation was held on Thursday, March 6 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., prior to the service. Burial was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO.
