RETA R. EGBERT
(1910-2008)

            

Reta Rebecca Egbert, 98, of Memphis, MO, formerly of Gorin, MO, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 29, 2008, in the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

The daughter of Eugene William “Tobe” and Lucy T. (Little) Morris, she was born south of Gorin, MO on February 28, 1910. She graduated from Gorin High School in 1930 where she excelled in basketball.

On April 9, 1933, she was married to Maenard Egbert and they worked together farming in Gorin. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1982.

Reta was instrumental in establishing the Gorin Community Hall and also enjoyed the Cedar Grove Club in Gorin. She was a devoted member of the Gorin United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women’s Group where she enjoyed quilting with the other members. As a person who truly enjoyed the outdoors, she loved gardening and her flowers. Her grandchildren were a true delight to her when they visited. Reta was also a devoted St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; one granddaughter, Donna Hatfield; one great grandson, Michael Gregory; one great great grandson, Andrew Small; five sisters, Nellie Thomas, Norah Morris, Dorothy Polhans, Virginia LaFrenz, and Margaret Rea; and two brothers, Dwight Morris and Willis Morris.

Survivors include three children: Mary Anna Troutman and husband Don of Memphis, MO, George Egbert and friend Dot Coughlin of Jonesboro, GA, and Patty Golbricht and husband Nelson of Gorin, MO; eleven grandchildren, Becky McCuiston and husband Wes of Chattanooga, TN, Delbert English of Downing, MO, Kathy Stone and husband Mike, Dean Troutman and wife Toni, and Donovan Troutman and wife Leslie, all of Memphis, MO, Kim and husband Mike Young of Kearney, MO, Kris Egbert of Raleigh, NC, Jackie Small and David Peterson and Rick and wife Cheryl Golbricht, all of Memphis, MO, Stacey Richardson and husband Bill of Wyaconda, MO, and Beth Golbricht of Colfax, IA; eighteen great grandchildren; one step great grandchild; and four great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at 10 a.m. in the Gorin United Methodist Church in Gorin, MO, with Pastor Barb Hagerla officiating. Burial was in the Gorin Cemetery. Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, from 12 noon until 8 p.m. in the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.
