Thelma Mae Slocum, 87, of
Memphis,
MO, passed away Saturday evening, June 14, 2008, in the
Scotland
County
Memorial
Hospital
in
Memphis.
The daughter of Otto Noah and Nellie Elsie (Bennett) Jones, she was born on September 27, 1920, in LaHarpe,
IL. Her schooling and majority of her life was spent in
Illinois
until her marriage to Max Slocum on July 27, 1939 in Keokuk,
IA.
Thelma was a homemaker and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and the time spent
together at family dinners. She enjoyed making quilts for the children and grandchildren. She always stressed the importance of loving one another.
She was a member of the
First
Baptist
Church
in Memphis.
Preceding her in death were her parents; twin daughters in infancy; one brother, Wendell Jones; and one sister,
Viola Leebold and her husband Millard.
Survivors include her husband, Max of
Memphis
, MO; one daughter, Marilyn and husband Jim Paris of
Memphis
, MO; two sons, Mark Slocum and wife Terrie of Kansas City, MO and Michael Slocum and wife Gerri of Ft. Madison, IA; five grandchildren, Lisa and husband Lance Rogers of O’Fallon, MO,
Jeffrey Tague of Queen City, MO, and Kelly, Carley and Matthew Slocum of Lee’s Summit, MO; six great grandchildren, Lauren, Eric and Elizabeth Rogers, and Derek, Mason and Kyle Tague;
three step great grandchildren, Mady, Maya and Kade; one sister-in-law, Luella Jones of Memphis, MO; nephews, Gary Leebold and wife Vera and family and David Leebold of Dallas City, IL; and
a host of friends and neighbors.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Gerth Funeral Chapel in
Memphis, MO.
Private family services were held later with Reverend Ernest Deatrick officiating. Special music was provided by Ann Luther, organist and Schelle Cooley, soloist.
Memorials were suggested to the Scotland County Nutrition Site and maybe be left at or mailed to Gerth Funeral
