BEATRICE OWENS
(1921-2008)

Beatrice Owens, 86, of Memphis, formerly of Gorin died Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis.

She was born the daughter of Thomas and Ellen (Cooper) Holmes on May 15, 1921 in Mississippi.

Beatrice married Calvin Owens in 1947 in Tupelo, MS.   He preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Memphis Pentecostal Church.  Beatrice loved gardening, she was a green thumb.  She enjoyed sewing and was a loving mother and grandmother.  Beatrice was always there for her family, a very faithful soul.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Betty Bailey; a grandson, David Davis, Jr; and a granddaughter, Diane.

She is survived by her children, Mary and husband Ed Hicks of Wyaconda, Jerry Jones of Gorin, James Thomas Jones of Cameron, and Margaret and husband David Davis of Gorin; a brother, Earl Holmes of Hamilton, AL; grandchildren, Corbin Jones of Washington, D.C., Cassie Jones of Kansas City, MO, Terry Jones and Corina Jones of Fresno, CA, John Harper and Billy Davis of Gorin, Dwight Harper of Springfield, MO, Teresa Diveley of Kirksville, Betty Sue Lyndel of Florida, Jeanette Martin and Christine Martin of Davenport, IA, Rick Alcorn and Marie Scott of Kansas City, MO, and Jason Wolf of Kirksville; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 16 at the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis with June Cooper, pastor of the Pentecostal Church of Memphis officiating.  Burial was in the Gorin Cemetery.  Visitation was from noon until 8 p.m., Thursday, May 15, at the Gerth Funeral Home in Memphis with the family present from 6-8 p.m.
